The primary responsibilities of this role include providing comprehensive psychiatric care to patients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders. This includes conducting psychiatric evaluations, prescribing medication, and providing psychotherapy as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including the assessment of mental status, current and past history of violence, suicidal ideation, substance use, and overall psychiatric history.
2. Develop individualized treatment plans based on the needs of each patient.
3. Prescribe and manage medications, monitor their effectiveness, and make necessary adjustments.
4. Provide psychotherapy and counseling services as needed.
5. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, psychologists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses, to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
6. Educate patients and their families on the nature of mental disorders, the importance of medication compliance, and the effects of various treatment options.
7. Stay updated on the latest research and developments in psychiatry to provide the best possible care for patients.
Requirements:
1. Master's degree in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatry (desired)
2. Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice. (Connecticut)
3. Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
4. A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a PMHNP.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications and their potential side effects.
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
8. Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems and proficiency in using them.
9. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
10. Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
